US, Russian and Brazilian planes fight deadly Chilean fires
Help is in the air in Chile, where this Boeing 747-400 Supertanker is drenching the country's fire-hit Bio-Bio region.
It's one of several relief planes deployed from the U.S., Russia and Brazil... all there to fight Chile's worst forest fire in modern history and bring some hope for Chileans.
(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) WOMAN, RESIDENT OF DICHATO, SAYING:
"Rather than an airplane, the (supertanker) is an angel, an angel for Chile and for all of us."
The fires have spread to affect 1.1 million acres, including here in the town of Menque, where police are urging residents to evacuate.
Officials say the origin of the fires remains unknown and that a deliberate intent cannot be ruled out.
In Santiago, an Antonov aircraft carrying four helicopters arrived from the U.S. on Tuesday.
Officials expect the airplane and the helicopters to be ready for action by the end of the day.
